Google Analytics: Installing the Tracking Code

Posted on March 23, 2012

The second tutorial in Google Analytics’ takes you through the installation process of the tracking code.

The process sounds simple, but this tutorial shows why is such a great resource. It walks you through it step-by-step so that he even the least tech-savvy among us will be able to install it properly.

Some quick hits from the five-minute tutorial:

  • The provided tracking code will need to be installed across all your pages on your site
  • You will need to customize the tracking code with your Google Analytics account number, which the tutorial shows you how exactly to do
  • You can customize code to track multiple domains or sub-domains
  • The tracking code is embedded straight into the HTML of your pages
  • When installing the tracking code, you will need consistency across your pages as far as where the code is placed in the HTML
  • You can link your Adwords account with Google Analytics
  • 24 hours after installation, the tracking data will appear
  • You can check to see if your tracking code was properly installed by going to “view source” when viewing your site

The tutorial was quite straight-forward, and it seems like the next few ones won’t waste any time before jumping into the analytical portion of Google Analytics, so bring them on!
